Privacy Notice
Snouthub is a small beta for dogs and their owners. This notice explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Account data: email address, handle, display name, password hash and the time you accepted this notice.
- Dog profile: name, breed or mixed status, age, gender, weight, coat colour, bio and profile photo.
- Nose print: a cropped image of your dog's nose and a mathematical embedding (a numeric vector) used for matching, plus quality/model metadata.
- Social content: posts, comments, reactions, follows and one-to-one chat messages.
- Technical data: IP address and request logs used for security, abuse prevention and rate limiting.
Why we use it
- Create and secure your account, and show your profile and dogs.
- Verify a dog's identity, prevent duplicate profiles and support lost-dog matching.
- Operate the feed, follows, comments and chat.
- Protect the service against abuse and keep it reliable.
Nose prints are biometric data
We treat the nose print as sensitive biometric data. It is used only for identity verification, duplicate prevention and lost-dog matching. It is not shown publicly, not sold, and not used for advertising. We store the cropped nose image and the embedding, not the full original photo used for the scan.
Legal bases
We rely on contract for account and social features, consent for processing the nose print, and legitimate interests for security and service reliability. You can withdraw consent at any time; this stops future nose-print processing and may mean your dog cannot be matched.
Retention
Account, dog and social data are kept while your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account or a dog, we remove the associated records; backups may retain a copy for up to 30 days before they rotate out. Security logs are kept only as long as needed for abuse prevention.
Sharing
We use hosting and infrastructure providers to run Snouthub. We may disclose data if required by law. We do not sell personal data or share it with third-party advertisers. Sponsored placements in the app are house ads for Snouthub.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, export or restrict processing of your data, and to object to some processing. To make a request, email support@snouthub.io from the address on your account. If you are in the EU/UK, you can also complain to your local data-protection authority.
Cookies and local storage
The app stores a login token and your language preference in your browser's local storage. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising cookies on the beta.
Beta limits
Snouthub is an early beta. The feed contains seeded demo profiles (Maya, Theo and Lena) for testing; they are not real users. Nose matching is an aid, not a guarantee of identity or ownership. Do not use Snouthub as the sole way to prove ownership or in an emergency — contact local authorities or a vet.
Children
Snouthub is not intended for children under 16. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes
We may update this notice as the beta changes. The effective date above will change, and material updates will be announced in the app.
